The Dangers of Vitamin E & Vitamin K

Did you know that when vitamin E and vitamin K are taken together the risk of blood clots increases in humans?

There are many supplements out there that claim to treat just about every health concern under the sun in humans. However, the jury is out on whether or not many of these supplements actually do what they say they are going to do. In addition, there are a lot of supplements out there that can actually be dangerous. Especially when combined.

So what does this mean for your horse? Unfortunately, there is not that much research out there at this point but the lessons learned from humans can be directly applied to our horses. Don’t just supplement because you can or because it makes you feel good. Consult your vet and do your research.

This serves as a reminder that when taking any supplement, it's always important to adhere to recommended dosages, stay educated on the potential risks, consider your individual health conditions and any other supplements or medications you're taking—and, of course, when in doubt, seek professional advice from your horse’s health team.

Given the research, I am not an advocate for supplementing vitamin K in horse’s diets and I only recommend supplementing vitamin E after a horse has been tested for a deficiency.
